New Participation rewards for Tamiya GT

To increase championship competition throughout the season, we have already annoucenced the inclusion of drop rounds. Today is an extra announcement, on top of drop rounds, we will add a Participation Credit to Tamiya GT

How it will work

When a Tamiya GT driver registers for their 8th round of racing they enter for free.*

There are some terms & conditions:

  • Must be a paid Club Member.
  • Pro & ProAm drivers are eligible.
  • The 8th round is specific to a single championship. So it is not a combination of Indoors and Outdoors entries, it has to be the 8th round relative to the Championship Event they are entering
  • Only the Tamiya GT entry is free, other classes are still subject to entry fees.

Why the 8th round?

With 2 drop rounds, and a season of 10 races long - 8 rounds is the minimum amount of rounds required to score points for an entire season.

What if Outdoors gets rained out on my 8th entry?

Hopefully we get a full 10 rounds of racing for 2019 Outdoors, but if we dont the Committee will meet and discuss our options based on the circumstances. We have plenty of rain-dates, but there is still a chance the championship will be less than 10 rounds.  We'll have a look at the numbers, and hopefully we'll have some positive data.

Why offer Participation Credits?

2018 had 11 rounds of Indoors racing, and when you look at the numbers - not many went to 80% of a Championship season. We can only speculate at some of the reasons why, and one reason might be that we didn't publicly display the Championship Points.

The 2018 data

Here is a table showing the participation levels of Club members from 2018:

Class Number of drivers that raced 8 or more races (of 11) Total Drivers (Club Members) Percentage
Pro12 2 15 13%
Mini 2 14 14%
Formula 1 2 10 20%
Touring Stock 13.5T 5 22 22%
Tamiya GT 5 20 25%
Touring Stock 21.5T 6 23 26%

So what we can see is Tamiya GT is already among the highest partronised classes.

So why Tamiya GT? Because we are promoting this as our entry level class, we are offering this opportunity to the masses, rather than a few elite drivers in some of the more high-end/botique/expensive classes.

So why not all classes? This will be  good test case for the possibility of extending to other classes in 2020. But like all things is subject to the committee, costs, membership numbers, etc; so it could be withdrawn altogether in 2020.
